March, is here and we should soon see the start of SPRING lighter nights, warmer days and things generally should start to grow. Speaking of things growing the amount of misconceptions surrounding stroke seems to grow each and every year, here are just a few:-
“Oh you dont look like you’ve had a stroke”. – Hang on a moment, what should I look like?
“Really? you are too young to have had a stroke, right?” – Even unborn babies can have strokes, so that theory blown out of the water.
“Sorry to hear about your stroke! Are you fully recovered then now?” -Just because you cant see any weakness, dont think that I dont have any physical, mental, emotional issues, what I would rather you do is educate yourself about strokes bearing in mind that actually no two strokes are the same, they can be similar but every single one is different, unique if you like, that said so is the recovery process….some take hours, in the event of TIA’s, a transient ischaemic attack, some days, some weeks, some months, some years but every day there will be improvement, sometimes you wont notice those improvements but they are there, trust me.
If you would like my opinion, celebrate every win, every improvement and remember that little small word which is so important. YET…I am unable to do this YET, I cant do that..YET.
on to some other news, next month this wonderful charity turns a milestone, yes believe it or not we are going to be 10 (TEN) ten years of making a difference and we are having a celebration ourselves and I would love it if you could come along support it, get involved. As well as our usual host Alan (The Voice of Old Trafford) sharing his wisdom and stories from one of the biggest football clubs in the world, we have great food, a superb raffle with some wonderful prizes (always welcome more) an auction which will include some fabulous items but this year we are doing something a little different we are going to be giving you an Ed Sheeran experience. Granted it isn’t Ed himself as Im led to believe he will be over the pond but it still plans to be a truly fantastic and memorable evening. Even if you are unable to attend but still want to get involved, we are offering you the chance to sponsor a seat. So your company / organisation / name can be attributed to that seat but we will get someone impacted by stroke benefit from your generosity.
The whole reason I started this is typified by our motto if you like #WeCareBecauseWeveBeenThere. Thank you
