Welcome to September 2021, as you may recall September is quite a poignant month for me as it brings round my “Stroke versary” yes on the 10th September it will be nine whole years since my life changed forever, so it is a time for reflection a time to look back, a time to celebrate of course but also a time to look how far I have come and what I have achieved since that what one could call a very very dark day. However, this charity is not about me and me alone it is about all the other stroke survivors that we have met along the way, the stories we have shared, the experiences we have encountered and the many challenges we have face and overcome. If nothing else that sums it all up really, no matter what you face, providing you acknowledge it, accept it in a way that you can move forward with your life, your recovery journey, the future however please DO NOT think it will be a quick fix, it certainly isn’t, it is about one step at a time, one foot in front of the other and at a manageable pace.
There will be good days, there will be bad days and there will be somedays like knock you back like just this weekend for instance from a personal point of view, a close relative informed me of just how close I was to meeting my maker, apparently, I was placed in an induced coma 9 years ago and yeah granted I obviously wouldn’t have known much about it at the time but to revisit this situation after all this time is pretty difficult to comprehend but I will because that is what us stroke survivors do.
